Amos and Einy: Albert Einstein's Social and Political Writings and Prophetic Judaism

Steven Gimbel, PhD

Jewish prophets, like Amos, served as the voice of the voiceless, speaking for—not just with—God and demanding social justice for the deprived. Albert Einstein saw science as reading the mind of God and used the world fame he derived from it to speak against racism, economic injustice and war. How did Einstein, while not a practicing Jew, fit into the Jewish prophetic tradition?

Lunch & Learn is a weekly program, every Thursday from 12:30 – 1:30 pm. The Lunch & Learn program is generously sponsored by Rita Edelston.
