Some years (seemingly at random) are leap years in the Jewish calendar, but most of us have no inkling why. We will study this sun- and moon-driven calendar and investigate biblical text, rabbinic commentary and some basic astronomy as we probe not only the mechanics of synchronization but the spiritual implications as well.
