The Book of Esther gives us a surprisingly modern perspective on timeless questions of Jewish identity in Diaspora. Are Esther and Mordecai more successful before or after they emerge from hiding their Jewishness? Do they “use” their Jewishness or circumvent it? And how do we measure success for them and the Jews of Shushan? Today, the Fast of Esther, let’s explore old and new commentaries to learn about Esther and ourselves.
Lunch & Learn is a weekly program, every Thursday from 12:30 – 1:30 pm. The Lunch & Learn program is generously sponsored by Rita Edelston.
