Seeking human connection after the war, two emotionally fragile Holocaust survivors forge a delicate bond in Hungary’s official entry for the Academy Award for Best International Film. Forty-something doctor Aldó lives in quiet solitude, having lost his family in the camps. His haunted, lonely existence in Budapest is upended by the arrival of a precocious patient, 16-year-old Klára, herself in the throes of trauma and loss. As these unlikely soulmates discover in each other a reason to go on, their chaste relationship teeters on impropriety amidst fresh threats of political turbulence.
